Califonia Bountiful

4-H profiles

Growing the next crop of California farmers!

"Learn by doing" is the motto of 4-H, and that's exactly what clubs all over the state do, thanks to the University of California Cooperative Extension offices that run the program. The name, of course, references the four H's, which are head, heart, hands and health—and the youth of California learn about all four as they go through the program.

Civic engagement, leadership, healthy living and STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) are all areas of opportunity for youth and adults in 4-H. The main goal is to empower youth through hands-on learning and research-based programs, and then to prepare them to use these skills in higher learning and possibly in their future professions. From rural to urban, 4-H is designed to educate the youth not just for the future, but now, too!
