Almond girl Jenny

Although almonds have been in her life since she was born, Jenny Holtermann could never have guessed that one day she'd become known simply as "Almond Girl Jenny."

She and her husband, Tim, are both fourth-generation almond farmers and now they are raising what they hope are the fifth generation of farmers, with their two young kids taking an active role on their Kern County farm. In addition to farming, she started blogging in 2014 about her life on the farm. This proved to be a big hit among those hungry to find out what rural life was all about.

"There was a lot of misinformation out there about farming and so I wanted to share the facts and what the true life of a farmer was like," Jenny said.

The popularity of her blog and social media presence quickly made people recognize Jenny simply as "Almond Girl Jenny," which was the name of her blog. Now she shares what daily life on the farm is like, offers up recipes and even gives tips on how readers can plant their own orchards.

In 2020, Jenny decided to turn her online presence into a direct-to-consumer business, selling almonds and almond-themed apparel on her website. She also teamed up with local businesses like Cornerstone Bakery in Bakersfield to sell her almonds products there as well as supplying them with farm-fresh nuts to use in their baked goods.

"I love supporting local," said Jennifer Mebane, owner of Cornerstone Bakery. "And our customers love it, too!"
