What makes it distinctive? Find out!

Home to Disneyland, palm trees and sunny beaches, Orange County is also an agricultural mecca. Once the center of California orange production, the area now provides an array of fresh vegetables, strawberries and nursery plants—many available year-round. It's a quick drive to farmers markets, demonstration gardens and Christmas tree farms, perfect for family outings.

Chuck Peltzer
The original homestead of the Peltzer family—Orange County farmers since 1913—was purchased by Walt Disney in 1954 to create his famous amusement park. Today, Chuck Peltzer operates Peltzer Pines Christmas tree farms in Irvine, Silverado and Brea.

Family Fun
Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade
Decorated boats delight Newport Harbor visitors. Called one of the nation's top 10 holiday happenings, the free nightly parade can be seen almost any place along the shore, Dec. 19-23.

Balboa Bars, Balboa Island
Munch on a famous Balboa Bar while enjoying the boats and shops at Newport Beach. The frozen treat—vanilla ice cream on a stick, dipped in chocolate and rolled in toppings—is sold at any number of Balboa Island establishments.

Santa Ana Zoo
Santa Ana rancher J.E. Prentice donated 12 acres of his citrus ranch in 1949 to establish the zoo. Check out the barn at the zoo's Crean Family Farm, where kids can learn about caring for farm animals.

Orange County Great Park, Irvine
Once part of Irvine Ranch, the park offers a Sunday farmers market and hands-on food and farm lab where master gardeners demonstrate how easy it is to have a green thumb.
