Welcome to a new year and a new issue! Here at California Bountiful, we aim to provide useful and interesting stories—and we also strive to inspire with ideas, recipes, destinations and more. This time of year, in particular, as we traditionally focus on resolutions, let's look beyond a specific goal and resolve to venture to new places, meet new people and try new foods.

Our photo contest winners took to the streets—or in this case, rural roads—and perhaps their images will encourage you to take a drive or visit a local farm or ranch. This issue's recipe pages, meanwhile, show unique combinations of ingredients and spices that are tasty and healthful. Maybe it's time to try a new cooking style or regional cuisine? Or how about a new gardening technique? We describe some large-scale, vertical installations, as well as small, easy-care houseplants that thrive almost exclusively on air.

We're also pleased to announce the Leopold Conservation Award winners and finalists. They've boldly implemented innovative techniques that inspire all of us to look at new ways to take care of our natural resources.

Yes, a new year brings opportunity for exploring and expanding—and we hope California Bountiful provides that inspiration!
