What makes it distinctive? Let's find out!

Monterey County farms and ranches offer beautiful working landscapes, rich history and deep-rooted connections to land and sea. But the county provides more than abundant food. It's also known for fun and adventure—from golf to hiking, shopping to dining, music to museums, and more.

Rebecca King, Royal Oaks

Garden Variety Cheese is a small farmstead cheese business run by Rebecca King on the 40-acre Monkeyflower Ranch, where her sheep produce milk for artisan cheeses and yogurt. Through the farm's adopt-a-ewe program, sponsors can receive exclusive seasonal cheese selections, updates on the adopted sheep and invitations to visit them. King also offers custom cuts of pasture-raised pork.

Bernardus Lodge & Spa, Carmel Valley

Chef Cal Stamenov takes advantage of the 28-acre resort's estate gardens to offer dishes made with fresh-picked organic vegetables and herbs, seasonal fruit and wines that originate from the resort's vineyards.

Good Old Days, Pacific Grove

This old-fashioned celebration with a big attitude, April 9-10, includes a parade, live entertainment, arts and crafts, food, carnival rides, classic car show, quilt show, pony rides and dance showcase—and it's free.

National Steinbeck Center, Salinas

Located in the birthplace of John Steinbeck, the center offers a premier collection of artifacts, books and film clips depicting the life and times of the Nobel Prize-winning author and of Monterey County.

Ag Venture Tours & Consulting, Salinas

Sightseeing and wine tasting tours, as well as agricultural education excursions, showcase the county's best. Full- and half-day tours can be customized to meet the interests of children and adults.
