Just across the river from Sacramento, America's Farm-to-Fork Capital, lies West Sacramento. It's a fast-growing city trying to forge its own culinary identity with restaurants that highlight the region's bounty—restaurants like La Crosta Pizza Bar.

La Crosta (which means "the crust" in Italian) is the latest venture from Steve Tatterson and Sara Arbabian. The husband-and-wife team also owns The Rind in Midtown Sacramento, where the menu is devoted to all things cheese. With their newest restaurant, the couple's goal is simple: to serve great food that's fresh, seasonal, local and unique.

While La Crosta's specialty is artisan pizzas with dough made from scratch (with an emphasis on the crust, obviously), it's what's on those crusts that makes this place special. For example, the seafood pizza is loaded with scallops, clams, rock shrimp, piquillo and white sauce, and the classic pizza features salami and three of Sara's favorite cheeses.

Showcasing ingredients from local Yolo County farms, including Del Rio Botanical and Riverdog Farms, La Crosta's menu also features piadina sandwiches (piadina is an Italian flatbread), pasta, salads, soups and desserts.
