Steamed basmati rice

  • 2 tsp. vegetable oil
    3 whole cloves
    1 cinnamon stick
    1 tsp. cumin seeds
    3 cups raw basmati rice
    3 cups water


Add oil and spices to a heavy-bottomed pan and toast spices until fragrant, stirring frequently. Add rice and toast slightly, then add water. Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until water is absorbed. Traditionally, this rice is served with the whole spices in it.
